Richard Werly, a journalist with Swiss daily newspaper Le Temps, says that when he first tossed out the idea of writing a “green” travel guide for Thailand the suggestion was greeted with sceptical laughter, friends of his pointing out that overdeveloped, polluted destinations such as Bangkok, Phuket and Pattaya were far from being poster children for the environmental movement.
